We only charge a small fee of $10 or less to ship back items that are not eligible for purchase, such as costume jewelry or items not made of gold, silver, platinum or palladium. With Alloy, you get can upfront estimates over the phone and are paid fast because we actually are the gold buyer. We send you a free Appraisal Kit with up to $100K insurance included. If you are not happy with your no-obligation offer, you can request a complimentary return of your precious metal items.

When you accept your offer before 5pm ET, you’ll be paid the very same day. You can choose from several payout methods including:

Yes, at Alloy, we purchase gold bars, rounds, and coins made of pure gold. Rounds are coin-shaped but not intended for commerce. We do not purchase coins meant for currency, such as quarters or dimes. Our focus is solely on the value of the metal on the day you wish to sell it, not on any perceived or antique value. Every gold item that we buy is is evaluated using the following steps:

1. Purity: The purity of gold is measured in karats (K), with 24K being pure gold. Gold items are often made from alloys that contain other metals, so the purity of the gold content needs to be determined. This can be done using various testing methods, such as electronic testing, acid testing, or X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis.

2. Weight: The weight of the gold item is measured in grams or troy ounces. Accurate weighing scales licensed by the State of Pennsylvania are used to determine the precise weight of the gold items, excluding any other materials or stones present in the item.


3. Market price: The current market price of gold is an essential factor in determining the value of gold items. Gold prices fluctuate daily based on supply and demand, economic factors, and global events. Evaluators stay up-to-date with the latest market trends and have pricing data refreshed every 60 seconds to provide industry leading offers.


4. Evaluation: Based on the purity, weight, and current market price of gold, evaluators calculate the value of the gold item. For example, if a gold item has a purity of 18K and weighs 10 grams, the gold content is 7.5 grams (as 18K gold contains 75% gold). The value is calculated by multiplying the weight of the gold (7.5 grams) by the current market price per gram.


Once the gold appraisal is complete, you will receive an offer based on the determined value. Offers for gold are provided within the same day of evaluation, and payment is issued the same day you accept the offer as long as the offer is accepted before 5pm ET.
